Picture of me.

My name is Menno-Paul Schreuder, and I am a freelance front-end developer from Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. I’m specialised in creating maintainable, responsive/adaptive and performant markup for websites and web applications.

In addition, I’ve been working with Angular for the last 4+ years at different projects and I’ve previously done a couple of Vue.js projects as well.

From 2009 and onwards I’ve been part of various (international) scrum-teams, which gained me the experience to be a productive team-player and to collaborate with the different roles and disciplines inside such teams. In 2015 I started my own small business called Pixels for Breakfast.

Experience

  • Alliander
October 2024 - Present Alliander (Team FAAM)

    Freelance front-end developer (Angular)

As the sole frontend developer for Team FAAM at Alliander, I oversee the continuous development and enhancement of an internal application that provides access to a vast repository of over 17 million images. These images, along with their metadata, document meter cabinets, (sub)stations, transmission towers, and other critical infrastructure essential to the delivery and transportation of electricity and gas. The platform allows users to efficiently search, browse, and interact with this data.

    My Role

    • Cutting-Edge Upgrades: Maintaining the application at the forefront of technology by upgrading to Angular v18, ensuring peak performance, security, and future-proofing.
    • Version 3 Migration: Leading the integration of a new API and developing fresh components to support the latest version.
    • UI/UX Design: Creating interactive Figma mockups to prototype and refine the MVP of version 3 based on user feedback.
    • Responsive Styling: Merging the power of Bootstrap and TailwindCSS to deliver a sleek, accessible, and responsive user interface.
    • Testing Excellence: Implementing rigorous unit tests with Jest and end-to-end tests with Cypress to ensure stability and scalability.

This work supports Alliander’s mission to maintain and manage critical infrastructure efficiently and effectively, aligning with evolving user needs and organizational goals.

  • Vattenfall
    May 2023 - August 2024 Vattenfall (eMobility)

    Freelance front-end developer (Angular)

As front-end developer within team eMobility at Vattenfall I've been working on a couple of Angular and/or Capacitor projects.
First as a team we've created a sales wizard for charging-points and provided support on it. It is part of a NX mono-repo with Angular 17, RxJS, NGXS and Storybook.
The second - and larger - project is called the smart-charging mobile app. It is also part of the same NX mono-repo and uses Capacitor with Ionic besides Angular, RxJS and NGXS.
I've introduced TailwindCSS for the overall styling of the entire project, gave a presentation on its pro's (and con's) and wrote and maintained documentation on it's use inside the mono-repo.

I also developed new Angular 11/14 components & funnels, performed several upgrades of Angular (v9 to v14) and built a Living Style Guide for internal use using .NET Core and Tailwind. I was also responsible for optimisation for improved SEO indexing and overall performance.

  • ThiemeMeulenhoff
    April 2019 - January 2020 ThiemeMeulenhoff

    Freelance front-end developer (Vue.js v2)

In my role as front-end developer on the scrum team, I developed the HTML templating using Twig for the web application, which was developed using Symfony. In addition, I developed Vue.js components for use within the learning environment and the student tracking system. Developed interactive learning tasks based on SVG. Further reduced the application to smaller, more efficient stylesheets.

  • The Valley
April 2018 - March 2019 The Valley (AkzoNobel)

    Freelance front-end developer (Vue.js v2)

As a front-end developer I was involved within AkzoNobel 'Deco team 2' in (continued) development of front-end components for all streams of AkzoNobel. This involved producing HTML, CSS and JavaScript. This within a multidisciplinary, international scrum team, consisting of UX and visual designers, front-end and backend devs. In the final period, I built a stand-alone store-locator based on VueJS. This app had to be scalable and fully configurable, be able to use Google, Yandex, Bing and Gaode Maps, and perform well in all browsers (including IE11) and devices.

At Idella, I was working as a front-ender in the scrum team for (among others) the Evi van Lanschot project. Here we worked on the development of funnels and portal for investment products, using HTML (ASP.NET Razor), CSS and Angular 2/4. My job was to create the (responsive) HTML for the funnels and portal. In addition, there were white label services, for which the available HTML and CSS had to be suitable for custom styling.

As part of a scrum team, I was responsible for the development of web applications for the housing corporation industry. The work included; developing the frontend of the tenant portal and corporate website, as well as building and maintaining backend extensions for TYPO3 CMS, which are used for the aforementioned frontend. Furthermore, I was involved in ad hoc work for customer projects, with maintenance and innovation/improvement of (basic extensions for) the CMS. At RedMatters I had a rather diverse range of tasks; I was involved in frontend development for TYPO3 CMS, but later also for Sitefinity (.NET CMS). I also performed DTP work, due to my experience with Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator, among others. This is where I first experienced agile/scrum by working remotely with a team of developers from Romania. I got to know Menno-Paul when we were looking hard for a front-end developer with good knowledge of TYPO3, CSS, etc. Also his knowledge of additional tools that enable great and smooth interactions are top notch. In recent years I have enjoyed working with him, especially because he is often critical and wants to understand the 'why' when starting on something. To me, that question means that he wants to contribute to valuable products that fully meet (customer) expectations. And that is a very nice trait for a developer!”

I would highly recommend Menno-Paul to any organization looking for a results-oriented front-end developer with a great amount of expertise. In the months he worked with us, he was of great value in realizing a (mostly) new Angular application. Despite the tight deadline of the project, Menno-Paul has been able to switch gears quickly, prioritize the required tasks well and deliver the project on time in close cooperation with the team, product owner and other stakeholders. All this without compromising the quality of the work. He also introduced TailwindCSS to our development street and guided our team in its use. In this, he was able to explain in a clear way, take the team along and make them enthusiastic about the possibilities it offers. This contributed to more efficiency in the project and its further development. Menno-Paul is not only very skilled in his field but also very pleasant to work with. He communicates clearly and is always willing to answer questions, help others and provide feedback. In short, in the past few months Menno-Paul has been a great addition to our team and will highly recommend him!”
